Randy Keller Fighting Heart Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1992 after Randy Keller was killed tragically in a car accident before his senior season as a 2nd baseman on the Tascosa Rebel varsity baseball team, this scholarship is now the largest local scholarship given in Amarillo ISD. Originally set at $5,000, the recipient, a current AISD varsity baseball player, now receives over $20,000 towards college or career prep after being selected following a rigorous application and interview process.
Football Manager Scholarship
For years, the men on the sidelines, moving the chains as the ball moves up and down the gridiron, have deposited their earnings into an account at the Amarillo Education Foundation. Today, the “Chain Gang” turns their investment towards human capital with the Football Manager Scholarship. AISD students who serve as Manager for their varsity football team are eligible to apply by completing the AISD General Scholarship Application Form, writing an essay and directing it to the Amarillo Education Foundation.
Leland Stanford Baker Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2005, this scholarship memorializes Leland Baker’s love for Amarillo ISD and West Texas State University. Established by his daughter, Evangeline Baker Archer, upon her death, it was her wish to honor her father by helping AISD students attend college at WTAMU. Any AISD student planning to attend WTAMU may apply using the AISD General Scholarship Application Form and directing it to the Amarillo Education Foundation.
Joel Shackleford Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2005, this scholarship is in memory of Joel Shackleford, former choir director at Tascosa High School. With two years of experience in Tascosa choir, a graduating senior planning to attend college may apply by completing the AISD General Scholarship Application Form and directing it to the Amarillo Education Foundation.
Peggy Lynch Memorial Scholarship
Peggy Lynch served as principal of Carver Elementary Academy for nine years and upon her death in 1997, a scholarship was created to honor her service. Since then, scholarships have been given to students who attended Carver Elementary Academy and graduated from Amarillo ISD until the fund was depleted with the final scholarships being given in May 2026. Peggy’s love of education and legacy will have a long lasting effect on the students who received scholarships in her name and those who had the honor of knowing her.
